Committee Member Biographies

Meet the 2013-2014 Staff Advisory Committee

Maryam Brown (Interim Chair) represents the Dean of the College which includes the Experiential Learning Center, the Center for Student Research, the Registrar's Office, the Academic Services Center, Martin Science, DOC Office, Grants Coordinator, and the Library. Maryam is the Assistant Director of the Experiential Learning Center / Internship Coordinator. Maryam graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology / Anthropology. After working extensively with non-profit and social service organizations in the Lynchburg area, she returned to the College to spearhead the growing internship program. When not working, Maryam enjoys discovering and supporting all things local, and having adventures with her young son.

Paula Hutt (Co-Chair) - Since coming to Randolph College in 2008, Paula is enjoying her "second career in life" as an accountant. She has worked with several local non-for-profit organizations and has just retired from serving on The Miller Home for Girls as the treasurer. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, attending Hillcats baseball games and reading.

Tina Hill (Secretary) Director of Athletics, represents the President's office, Athletics, the Maier Museum, and Human Resources on the Staff Advisory Committee. She oversees all of our 13 inter-collegiate athletics programs and the Social Sports Network/Intramural program on campus. Since joining the Randolph community in 2008, "I've enjoyed spending time hiking and biking in beautiful Virginia, playing Frisbee with my dog Sadie and when I have a chance, I do a little sewing".

Gretchen Morgan came to the College in 1989 as a Certified College Health Nurse and Health Educator. She became the Health Center Director/Nurse in 2001. Gretchen represents the Dean of Students division including the Health and Counseling Center where they work very hard in assisting students to manage and regain their health so they have the potential to experience and achieve the best academic living and learning opportunities possible! Gretchen loves working with the students, spending time with her grandson, and enjoying the out of doors with Tom: biking, sailing and traveling.

Phebe Wescott represents Institutional Advancement which includes the Development Office, the Office of College Relations, and the Office of Alumnae and Alumni. An alum of R-MWC, Phebe has worked at the College for 14 years now. She enjoys the people and the sense of community that is here at Randolph. In her free time, Phebe enjoys hiking, travel, and time with family and friends, especially if it includes the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Sharon Newman sits on the Committee also representing Buildings & Grounds. Sharon has been with the College for eleven years. She loves working with the students, staff, and faculty. She enjoys traveling, camping, working in her flower gardens and getting together with her family and friends.

Doug Moyer is the other representative from B&G. Doug was born and raised in West Michigan, where he began his career in commercial and industrial HVAC. He and his wife have been married for 34 years and have 3 grown children who have blessed them with five grandchildren. Doug and his wife moved to Virginia in 2007 to be near their 5 grandkids. His leisure time is spent exploring all that Virginia has to offer and spending time with the grandkids.

Joy McGrath Associate Director of Admissions for International Students, represents Student Financial Services, Admissions and Student Success. Since 2006 she has been responsible for recruiting international students as well as Americans who are currently living abroad. She also works with graduate students. Joy says, "My husband and I rarely have spare time with two young boys but when I can I love baking and enjoy playing games with the boys, all 3 of them."
