For dancers, experience is vital. Senior dance majors focusing on composition get to prepare and perform a significant choreographic work. Those concentrating on technique and performance undertake supervised practice teaching.
The Visiting Artist Program, founded in 1971 by alumna Helen McGehee '42, enables students to use the works of affiliated major dance companies, top studios, university programs, and conservatories. The program also allows students to study with accomplished professional dancers, educators, and choreographers in all forms of dance. McGehee herself was a leading dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company for more than 30 years and remains an inspiration to our dance majors.
